Japanese garden documentary features Philadelphia cultural treasure.
John N. Campbell has completed production of a beautiful and comprehensive documentary about the Shofuso Japanese House and Garden in Philadelphia's Fairmount Park.  The program explores the features of the traditional style Japanese house and world-class landscape garden that is considered one of Philadelphia's hidden cultural treasures.  Through interviews with Frank Chance, a noted scholar on east Asian studies from the University of Pennsylvania; Kim Andrews, Shofuso's Executive Director; and Morgan Beard, a tea ceremony instructor, the DVD explains how the philosophy of Japanese culture and art are expressed in the features of Shofuso's architecture and garden design. The documentary features a lyrical score featuring traditional Japanese instruments such as koto, shamisen and shakuhachi.  The DVD is available at Shofuso's gift shop and online.
